Yeah, I tested some stuff and came to the conclusion, that the normal map / details map (I combined the two) is kind of trash 😉
In other apps, say Substance Designer, you can convert from a height to a normal map and get half decent results.
I was under the impression something similar would be going on in Gaea. But when applied a Gaea normal map to a material and rendered in let´s say Marmorset Toolbag, it looks totally "off" - no matter if you flip around channels or not.
Same goes for UE4. Not even close to functioning.
I ended up baking a normal from high mesh to a lower res one (like usual) to have a working solution / normal map.
Was hoping to save some time when using the Gaea normal map, but it´s not the case.
As there are so many thing not working like expected (gamma, PNG export, looking at you) I blame it on Fck´d Tangent
space or something, who knows. Hopefully we will see fixes soon. Gaea is a pipeline tool and working imports and exports
is a must for production.
