This is the elephant in the room for me.
It's high time to research how to utilize VDM (Vector Displacement Map) tech to allow undercutting, cliff overhang, cave impressions, add much needed detail to sheer cliff walls, better rocks and pebbles, etc. That's the future of terrain creation to me.
I know it'll be difficult to implement, but it's necessary. Vertex points manipulated in the vertical only is cripplingly limited and never really looks natural without a run through a 3D sculpting tool to add those features. And those added features wont look as natural if hand sculpted.
I'd be more than happy to beta test any ideas.
If Quadspinner can manage such a feat, Gaea will decimate all other terrain creation software.
It's a challenge, but a worthy one.
